Child Health

Immunizations

Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program

WIC is a Federal program designed to provide supplemental food to low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women; infants, and children up to age five. The program provides a combination of nutrition education, supplemental foods, breastfeeding promotion, support, and referrals for health care. WIC has been proven to be effective in preventing and improving nutrition-related health problems.
Primary Care

Environmental specialists are responsible for inspecting food service establishments, hotel/motels, public swimming pools, bed and breakfasts, child care facilities, schools, and other facilities. The division is also responsible for planning and promoting the rabies vaccination clinic and investigating animal bites.

With physician referral, Registered Dietitians counsel individuals with special dietary needs such as hypertension, diabetes, and weight management. Nutrition education is also provided to community agencies, groups, and schools by the Health Educators or Diabetes Team.
Diabetes Team

Our health educators are here to offer free educational information and programs for schools, churches, workplaces, community groups, and individuals. Health topics include nutrition and healthy eating, sexual health, tobacco awareness and prevention, health risks of physical inactivity, employee wellness, substance abuse, cyber bullying, internet safety, and overall health and wellness. They also offer free smoking cessation classes.


Children's Special Services (CSS)
This service assists with medical treatment for children to age 21 when they have special medical needs and the family is financially unable to provide for necessary care. This service may also include speech and hearing screenings.

Dental Clinic

Family Planning
Patients receive a complete physical exam and all appropriate lab tests, and are taught about birth control methods and supplied with their chosen method (unless there is a medical reason that would be dangerous). Many infections and other contraceptive problems can also be treated.

HUGS (Help Us Grow Successfully) Program

Motor Voter Program
Voter registration forms will be available and assistance in completing the forms will be provided.

Prenatal
Pregnancy testing and referral are available. Please ask us which services we offer.

Vital Records

Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD)
The health department provides FREE and confidential testing and treatment for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV. Contact follow-up conducted to avoid further spread of disease. Services are available without parental consent. Testing is done on a walk-in basis : M - F, 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. Always call to make sure the walk-in times are available.

TennCare Kids
A program of ensuring checkups and healthcare services for persons from birth to 21 years of age who have TennCare. Community Outreach Representatives are available to promote the importance of well-child checkups and preventive care to individuals and groups through participation in community activities, schools, agencies, and home visits.

Tuberculosis
Diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of tuberculosis patients and contacts are provided. Medications are available at the health department.

Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) Insurance Coverage For Mental Health

Obamacare purchased from the Health Care Marketplaces covers Mental Health Care and Substance Use Disorder Treatment. Under the Health Care Law there are 10 categories of benefits. Mental Health Care and Substance Abuse Treatment are two of the 10.
