About Elmira Psychiatric Center

The Elmira Psychiatric Center, located in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes Regions of Upstate New York, provides a wide array of comprehensive psychiatric services including Inpatient care and Community Based Psychiatric Services. Inpatient programs (located in Elmira) consists of a 52 bed Adult Unit and a 12 bed Child/Adolescent Unit. Community-based services comprise the largest component of the treatment spectrum and include Assertive Community Treatment, Clinic Treatment, Community Residences, School-based Day Treatment, Drop-In Centers, Family Care Residences, Intensive Case Management, Mobile Mental Health, and Prepaid Mental Health.

Admissions/Referrals

Admission to the inpatient level of treatment is normally by transfer from an acute care hospital or through the County Mental Health Director(s). Referrals are coordinated through the facility's admission/discharge coordinator at the above phone number. Community Based services are accessed through the local county Single Point Of Entry process, or by contacting the programs directly.

Medicare

Elmira Psychiatric Center accepts Medicare, a federal health insurance program for people age 65 and older and people with disabilities.

Medicare covers a wide range of mental health services.

Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) covers inpatient mental health care services you get in a hospital. Part A covers your room, meals, nursing care, and other related services and supplies.

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) helps cover mental health services that you would generally get outside of a hospital, including visits with a psychiatrist or other doctor, visits with a clinical psychologist or clinical social worker, and lab tests ordered by your doctor.
